Earned through successful completion of an intensive non-degree program such as New Wine

Earned by receiving a college degree (bachelor's or higher) in Religious Education, Theology, or some related field

Principal/DRE recommendation required
Pastor recommendation required
Certified catechist must be assigned as mentor
Plan must be developed to obtain Level I certification during the emergency year

Certificate Renewal:
To renew Level II, III, and IV certificates, individuals must:
Earn 3 college credits in theology/religion OR
Earn 5 Religious Education Units (REU) through continuing education workshops approved by the Office of Faith Formation
1 REU is awarded for every 5 contact hours within workshops

Individuals are to keep up with their record sheets
When complete, record sheets should be signed by the individual’s pastor, principal, or DRE and submitted to the Office of Faith Formation (via email: [email protected])

PLEASE NOTE: If the course awards CEUs, these are equivalent to REUs. The number of CEUs the course awards is how many REUs you receive towards your certification renewal.
If the course does not offer CEUs or REUs, calculate your REUs using the formula below:
