Catechist QuickStart
Catechist QuickStart is an intense, one day, summer course designed to give first-time catechists an introduction to the mission of the Diocese of Biloxi, Catholic teaching and doctrine, the structure of religious education, classroom management, and catechetical ministry. Level II Certification:- Earned through completion of the the Biloxi Formation Portal OR Echoes of Faith program
- Contact [email protected] to receive a membership code for Echoes of Faith
- The membership code costs $15 per user
- Consideration will be given to candidates who have participated in formal education programs equivalent to Echoes of Faith
- Valid for 5 years
- Renewable
- Earned through successful completion of an intensive non-degree program such as New Wine
- Valid for 5 years
- Renewable
Level IV Certification:- Earned by receiving a college degree (bachelor's or higher) in Religious Education, Theology, or some related field
- Valid for 5 years
- Renewable
- Principal/DRE recommendation required
- Pastor recommendation required
- Certified catechist must be assigned as mentor
- Plan must be developed to obtain Level I certification during the emergency year
- Valid for one year
- Non-renewable
Certificate Renewal:- To renew Level II, III, and IV certificates, individuals must:
- Earn 3 college credits in theology/religion OR
- Earn 5 Religious Education Units (REU) through continuing education workshops approved by the Office of Faith Formation
- REU record sheets can be downloaded below
- Individuals are to keep up with their record sheets
- When complete, record sheets should be signed by the individual’s pastor, principal, or DRE and submitted to the Office of Faith Formation (via email: [email protected])

PLEASE NOTE: If the course awards CEUs, these are equivalent to REUs. The number of CEUs the course awards is how many REUs you receive towards your certification renewal.
If the course does not offer CEUs or REUs, calculate your REUs using the formula below:
