Building the Foundation
Fr. Michael Tracey served as Associate Youth Director for the Diocese of Natchez-Jackson from 1975 to 1977. When the Diocese of Biloxi was established in 1977, Bishop Howze appointed Fr. Tracey as its first Director of Youth Ministry, a role he held until 1981.
Bragg Moore became the first layperson to serve as Youth Director for the Diocese of Biloxi, faithfully helping to build the foundation of what the ministry is today. During his leadership, Spirit Movers began, and DBYC (then known as Youth Convention) grew and flourished.
Ray Lacy, a product of youth ministry within the Diocese of Biloxi, later stepped into the role of Youth Director. After serving as youth minister at St. Thomas in Long Beach and as a longtime MC for DBYC, he brought deep experience and heart to the Youth Office. He served as Director from 2016 until 2023, when he became Diocesan Director of Evangelization.
In 2023, Marianne Schmidt was named Youth Director. Formed by years of involvement in youth ministry in Houston, Texas, she is passionate about creating opportunities for teens to encounter Christ and is committed to helping foster those moments within the Diocese.
